World Oceans Day!
It was a bright shiny start on WOD 2017 on Tofo Beach. Working in collaboration with lots of fantastic residents, schools and visiting volunteers here, we had expected just over 300 children to the celebrations but quickly realised that almost 400 children had arrived with their participating schools!! The day was busy, hectic, noisy but above all fun, with children participating in smaller groups in Dancing, Singing, Art, Film and Sports workshops.
Culminating in a group dance on the beach with a brass band playing a version of Shakira’s Whakawaka…..and, as the AOA volunteers and Alberta Marine Bio SAFS group started to dance almost 200 children suddenly surrounded them in a spontaneous dance-off! It really was a day of celebration, thank you to all who were involved.
