Safari to Cape
The Kruger to Cape Volunteer Adventure Tour will take you through some of the best that southern Africa has to offer in terms of wildlife, culture, beaches, sights and scenery. First you embark on a 5-day camping safari through the world-famous Kruger National Park to spot big game, including the big 5 – lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino!
OVERVIEW
On your return, it’s time to explore Eswatini and you will get involved in grassroots community projects and have time to give back to others and learn more about the way of life in Eswatini. In the middle of your volunteer experience in Eswatini, you will have a vacation to tropical Mozambique where you spend time on palm-fringed Indian Ocean beaches and snorkel with amazing megafaunas such as Whale Sharks, dolphins, turtles and Manta Rays.
Then it’s time to head to spectacular South Africa, where first you will get a taster of one of South Africa’s largest cities, Johannesburg, before flying to the Mother City of Cape Town! In Cape Town you’ll be exploring all this city has to offer and can experience activities including climbing table mountain, visiting Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned, standing on the most South Westerly Point of Africa at Cape Point and shopping for souvenirs in local craft markets. Cape Town is the start point where you will begin your tour one of South Africa’s most visited areas, The Garden Route. You’ll see some of the most amazing beaches, interact with local people and wildlife, take part in activities including Canoeing in Wilderness, game drive in Addo Elephant Park, seeing the most southerly point of Africa at Cape Agulhas and seeing the magnificent formations Cango Caves. You also have the option to volunteer again at one of our placements working with children or the disabled in two local townships.
Accommodation & Meals
During your stay, you will be accommodated in a variety of lodges as you tour Southern Africa, but your home base will be the award-winning Lidwala Lodge in Ezulwini Valley and then Hout Bay Backpackers in Cape Town. Three meals a day will also be provided, some on a self-serve basis and others cooked for you.

The start day for this project is the first Monday of the month throughout the year, with the exception of November & December when the project is closed. (Please ensure that your flight arrives BEFORE 1:00 pm)

By signing up with us you are donating your time and skills to work directly with communities in need through a structured project. There are many benefits of volunteering with an organization like ours. Sometimes it is hard to find projects to support in a foreign country that are safe, worthwhile and reputable. When you sign-up for one of our projects for 2 or 12-weeks, you become part of a bigger, sustainable plan that our team of qualified staff has carefully crafted. You will also receive travel and visa support, orientation, a safe place to stay, logistical support, in addition to clear expectations of the work you will do. This is why we charge a fee for volunteering or interning abroad.

YOUR ROLE
Volunteer role
In Kruger, you will be joining a camping safari. Here your days will be spent on game drives searching for the incredibly diverse wildlife that this world-renowned national park has to offer, while at night you will be camped out under the African stars, sitting around a crackling campfire listening to tales of the African bush. While In Kruger, your guide will teach you about the animals and plants of the African Savannah and how important it is to protect this beautiful but fragile Eco-system as well as how culture, tradition and society here is linked to wildlife.
When you arrive in the beautiful mountainous Kingdom of Eswatini your role will switch to volunteer as you get involved in projects that aim to uplift the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children.
Volunteers have the option of choosing the following projects:
Childcare which involves assisting the teachers at our Neighbourhood Care Points (NCP’s), which act as pre-schools for orphaned and vulnerable children
Building which involves projects such as laying bricks for new classrooms or maintaining the gardens at our NCP’s
Sports which includes assisting with running sporting activities with our NCP children including swimming , dancing and other fun games!
The fourth week of your experience is spent on the beautiful golden sand beaches of sunny Mozambique. After two weeks of hard volunteer work in Eswatini it’ll be time to relax in this tropical climate and swim the blue waters of the warm and inviting Indian Ocean. Mozambique is a colorful and vibrant African country like no other and it is here that you will get to spend seven days of beach bliss and ocean adventure.
You will then head back to Eswatini for two weeks to finish your work at your volunteer placement before packing your bag again and adventure in South Africa! Learn about its Apartheid past; sunbathe on glorious beaches; have an up-close encounter with an ostrich; get a rush of adrenaline on optional extra activities such as bungy jumping or quad biking; and learn about the local food and culture.
In Cape Town, you have the option to work on child care or with disabled individuals in the Townships of Imizamo Yethu or Hangberg in Hout Bay. Your projects will involve either working with disadvantaged and vulnerable children helping with basic life skill training, teaching and support through care and attention; or assisting at a local center for the disabled where clients are supported to develop skills. You will use your free weekends to explore the restaurants, beaches, historical museums and nightlife of one of Africa’s best cities.

IMPORTANT NOTE: When you work with children, you will be in the rural areas where modesty will be an important factor. Please make sure you dress appropriately- failure to do so may result in you missing a day of volunteering. More information about the dress code will follow in the pre-flight guide
ITINERARY
Day in the life of a volunteer
7:00 Wake up, jump in a hot shower and get yourself started for the day with breakfast!
8:00 Travel to your placement and get ready to begin your day.
8:30 Participate in your volunteer project assisting with fun activities.
13:00 Time to either return to your accommodation for lunch, or eat the packed lunch you made!
14:00 Begin your afternoon’s work with a full stomach & enthusiasm.
16:30 Return back to your accommodation and share your day’s adventures with other volunteers, maybe even a quick swim in the pool!
18:30 Enjoy a delicious evening meal & relax……
Itinerary for your experience
Day 1 Fly into OR Tambo Airport, Johannesburg where you will be met by All Out Africa staff member who will transfer you by road from Johannesburg to the Kingdom of Eswatini.
Day 2 The second day begins with an informative orientation that will brief you on all you need to know about the culture and country, how to effectively contribute during your volunteer experience and what to expect on the tours.
In the afternoon you will embark on a Cultural Tour where you will visit the museum to learn about Swazi history and culture.
Day 3-7 Conservation Tour, Kruger National Park, South Africa Kruger National Park is probably Africa’s most famous Conservation area. Spanning nearly 20,000 km2 it covers a vast array of habitats and associated wildlife. We venture on a 5-day tour into the heart of Kruger Park including four nights camping in the park and unlimited game drives exploring the vast wilderness with the expert guidance of one of our wildlife guides.
Day 7 you will depart Kruger for Eswatini.
Day 8-20 Volunteer Projects, Eswatini You will spend the next 10 days volunteering on your selected project.
As a volunteer, the activities you might be involved in will include any of the following practical projects:
● Teaching basic English and maths to children
● Organizing creative games & craft classes
● Organizing sports days for exercise and fun
● Making clay bricks and preparing land for structure
During this time you will also be supported to obtain your visa to enter Mozambique (the cost of a visa is not included in the program cost) and will also visit the Mantenga Cultural Village where you will have the chance to experience traditional Swazi culture.
Day 21-26 Mozambique Beach & Whale Shark Tour We venture on a 7-day tour to Tofo where you will experience the laid-back beach lifestyle of this colorful and vibrant country. You will take an ocean safari to snorkel with the magnificent Whale Shark and also have a full day kayak trip across the blue waters to the palm-fringed islands in the Inhambane Bay. If you are a certified diver you will have the opportunity of exploring the spectacular fish life of the coral reefs!
There is also the option to take part in an Internationally Accredited Open Water or Advanced Dive Course (extra cost) should you wish to dive. Here you’ll have the opportunity of exploring the spectacular fish life of the coral reefs and the chance to find the “Tofo Big 5” – Whale Sharks, Manta Rays, turtles, dolphins and Humpback Whales.
Day 27 Travel back to Eswatini.
Day 28-44 Ezulwini, Eswatini On returning to Eswatini you will head back to your volunteer placement for 12 days.
(Note: You will follow the same work programme as your initial two weeks. (see Day 8-20).
Day 45 Travel to Cape Town, South Africa: Today you will be taken to Manzini International Airport (KMIII) to Cape Town, where you’ll be picked up and taken to the Hout Bay Backpackers Lodge! and you will have an informative presentation that will brief you on all you need to know about the culture and country, and how to effectively contribute during your volunteer experience.
Day 46 After breakfast, you’ll head to a morning tour of the nearby Hangberg community! Your tour guide is a local leader who lives in the community and is involved in many of the youth interventions to encourage positive development. After lunch, you’ll go on a Seal Island Tour.
Day 47 Red Bus Tour: Today is a free day to explore Cape Town and you will be given a ticket for the Red OpenTop Sightseeing Bus. This bus takes you to all of Cape Town’s sights including Table Mountain, V&A Waterfront, District Six Museum and Camps Bay Beach.
You can hop on and off at your leisure This will help you get a feel for the city and to identify the sights you wish to explore more on your return after the Garden Route Tour.
Day 48-53 Travel The Garden Route Next you will travel through and stay along the “Garden Route” famous for its beautiful coastal villages and towns set against the backdrop of ancient forests and rugged mountains.
What to expect on your fantastic choice of doing the Garden Route Adventure & Wildlife nature tour, visiting the Southern Point of Africa where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet. Travel on the longest wine route in South Africa to the Karoo, via Mountains, beautiful scenic routes, over valleys, rugged Mountain passes, fruit orchards & enjoy beachfront accommodation, while stopping at one of the highest bridges for a 218m bungy jump. Enjoy wild Safari and elephant mudbaths, stand on ostrich eggs, taste South African foods & wines. Make friends for life & join an optional Cape Point Peninsula tour when you back.
Day 48 Your Garden Route adventures begins with an early start. Settle in while getting to know your fellow travelers on day 1 of this scenic trip, stopping for the freshest homemade pies, flaky croissants to smoothie bar & coffee varieties.
Put your feet in the Indian Ocean & a few steps away in the Atlantic Ocean, take photos at the Southern Tip Of Africa where 2 oceans meet.
Day 49 Start the morning at the Wilderness National Park for a day of canoeing down a tranquil river with lots of birdlife, a short hike through an Indigenous forest to a hidden waterfall. Enjoy lunch, a swim before making our way back on the river. Tonight you will hear Lions roar as you drift to sleep.
Day 50 We start the day visiting ostriches. Optional but a chance to stand on an ostrich egg & feed them while learning all about Ostriches. Visit ancient chambers that San bushman used to seek shelter in & be awed by the African Drum room. Optional encounter with tiger, snake or lion. Then we leave the Semi Karoo & make our way to Jeffreys bay, the Surfing capital of South Africa.
Day 51 Today you have 2 options: An early morning trip to The Addo Elephant National Park to find wildlife, from big to the small indigenous dung beetle. We hope to catch the Elephants doing a mudbath or the elusive lions. After the Safari its 90 mins back to the lodge to rest before our wine tasting & barbecue the South African way. Otherwise sleep in and enjoy a Surfing lesson in the morning to catch those waves, plus leisure time with a surfboard & a wetsuit after your 2 hr lesson. Stroll through the small surfing town popping into all the Billabong, quick silver & Roxy Factory shops.
Day 52 Today we have plenty of options available to suit everyone Today is the day the adrenaline junkie has been waiting for. A thrilling experience awaits you as you face your fear, begin with a zipline on Africa’s biggest bridge in the Tsitsikamma National Park, then bungee jump from the top of the arch down 216m and 451 metres long. Known as the best bungee and 4th highest in the world and the highest in Africa.
Enjoy the walk back on the suspended skywalk with spectacular views.
Up next enjoy a wonderful encounter with one of the Big 5, the African elephant. Learn about these great mammals while having photos taken, feel their skin and touch their ivory tusk. Then another great option is enjoy walking in the forest amongst 9 different primates, apes, monkeys all under a large canopy and all free to roam around you. Walk high above the forest on a swing bridge on your return. Enjoy 1 hr with these amusing primates, watch lemurs as they circle you, spider monkeys that cuddle, are just a few exciting encounters to witness. You are able to enjoy all 3 options if you wish.
After a great adventure we enjoy dinner out as we bid our farewells.
Day 53 Our last day includes a stop to visit the Aloe Factory, best known for natural beauty, skin & body products for both men & women at a fraction of the cost in retail shops. Great stops along the N2 at Swellendam and down passes. We finally arrived at your backpack in Hout Bay around 6 p.m. after a lovely trip.
Our direction/routes may change due to weather conditions, road closures or unforeseen circumstances, but at the end of your trip, you should be able to tick all the boxes.
Day 54-56 Explore Cape Town You now have three more free days to explore the beautiful city of Cape Town. Ideas for day trips include visiting the penguins at Boulders Beach and going to Cape Point National Park, hiking up Table Mountain, going on a wine tour, visit Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens or do a tandem skydive!
Other ways to enjoy the vibe of Cape Town is to explore the bars and shops of Long Street, saunter the docksides of the V&A Waterfront, or take a boat out to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was held a political prisoner for 27 years.
8 Week Option
Day 57 Sadly all great adventures must come to an end and on your final day you will leave the lodge in Hout Bay and will fly out of Cape Town International Airport or depart by other means. Airport transfer is included on the designated departure day, otherwise early departures are responsible for their own transportation.
11-12-week Option
Day 57-78/85 You will spend the next days working with one of the child care centers in the Hout Bay area that are assisting disadvantaged children. During your three or four weeks (dependent on the duration you choose) you will be working at the care centers you will get involved with a number of different projects that aim to inspire and uplift the lives of these children. Volunteers will help with lesson planning and learning activities, painting educational murals and reading/writing. You’ll work in direct contact with these children on a daily basis taking care of their basic needs and giving them much-needed love and care.
There is also the option to work at a local center for the disabled, whose aim is to develop the skills of clients to be able to earn a small income and build self-confidence. Disability is still stigmatized in South Africa and the center is a safe space for those who attend. You may help with the skills training, including crafts or gardening projects and also with literacy lessons. A big part of your role is to be friendly and supportive and encouraging the clients.
Day 78 (11-week option) OR Day 85 (12-week option) Sadly all great adventures must come to an end and on your final day you will leave the lodge in Hout Bay and will fly out of Cape Town International Airport or depart by other means.
