PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Kruger to Cape Volunteer Adventure Tour will take you through some of the best that southern Africa has to offer in terms of wildlife, culture, beaches, sights and scenery.
First you embark on a 5-day camping safari through the world-famous Kruger National Park to spot big game, including the big 5 – lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino!
On your return, it’s time to explore Eswatini and you will get involved in grassroots community projects and have time to give back to others and learn more about the way of life in Eswatini.
In the middle of your volunteer experience in Eswatini, you will have a vacation to tropical Mozambique where you spend time on palm-fringed Indian Ocean beaches and snorkel with amazing megafaunas such as Whale Sharks, dolphins, turtles and Manta Rays.
Then it’s time to head to the spectacular Mother City of Cape Town in South Africa for the last stage of your trip!
In Cape Town you’ll be exploring all this city has to offer and can experience activities including climbing table mountain, visiting Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned, standing on the most South Westerly Point of Africa at Cape Point and shopping for souvenirs in local craft markets. Cape Town is the start point where you will begin your tour one of South Africa’s most visited areas, The Garden Route.
You’ll see some of the most amazing beaches, the most southerly point of Africa at Cape Agulhas and the magnificent formations Cango Caves. You'll interact with local people and wildlife, take part in some included activities and will have the chance to try many optional extras such as bungy jumping and sand boarding. You also have the option to volunteer again at one of our placements working with children or the disabled in two local townships.
YOUR ROLE
In Kruger, you will be joining a camping safari. Here your days will be spent on game drives searching for the incredibly diverse wildlife that this world-renowned national park has to offer, while at night you will be camped out under the African stars, sitting around a crackling campfire listening to tales of the African bush. While In Kruger, your guide will teach you about the animals and plants of the African Savannah and how important it is to protect this beautiful but fragile Eco-system as well as how culture, tradition and society here is linked to wildlife.
When you arrive in the beautiful mountainous Kingdom of Eswatini your role will switch to volunteer as you get involved in projects that aim to uplift the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children.

The fourth week of your experience is spent on the beautiful golden sand beaches of sunny Mozambique. After two weeks of hard volunteer work in Eswatini it’ll be time to relax in this tropical climate and swim the blue waters of the warm and inviting Indian Ocean. Mozambique is a colorful and vibrant African country like no other and it is here that you will get to spend seven days of beach bliss and ocean adventure.
You will then head back to Eswatini for two weeks to finish your work at your volunteer placement before packing your bag again and adventure in South Africa! Learn about its Apartheid past; sunbathe on glorious beaches; have an up-close encounter with an ostrich; get a rush of adrenaline on optional extra activities such as bungy jumping or quad biking; and learn about the local food and culture.
In Cape Town, you have the option to work on child care or with disabled individuals in the Townships of Imizamo Yethu or Hangberg in Hout Bay. Your projects will involve either working with disadvantaged and vulnerable children helping with basic life skill training, teaching and support through care and attention; or assisting at a local center for the disabled where clients are supported to develop skills. You will use your free weekends to explore the restaurants, beaches, historical museums and nightlife of one of Africa’s best cities.

IMPORTANT NOTE: When you work with children, you will be in the rural areas where modesty will be an important factor. Please make sure you dress appropriately- failure to do so may result in you missing a day of volunteering. More information about the dress code will follow in the pre-flight guide

Itinerary for your experience
Day 1
Day 2
In the afternoon you will embark on a Cultural Tour where you will visit the museum to learn about Swazi history and culture.
Day 3 - 7
Kruger National Park is probably Africa’s most famous Conservation area. Spanning nearly 20,000 km2 it covers a vast array of habitats and associated wildlife. We venture on a 5-day tour into the heart of Kruger Park including four nights camping in the park and unlimited game drives exploring the vast wilderness with the expert guidance of one of our wildlife guides.
Day 8 - 20
Volunteer Projects, Eswatini.
You will spend the next 10 days volunteering on your selected project.
As a volunteer, the activities you might be involved in will include any of the following practical projects:
- Teaching basic English and maths to children
- Organizing creative games & craft classes
- Organizing sports days for exercise and fun
- Making clay bricks and preparing land for structure
During this time you will also be supported to obtain your visa to enter Mozambique (the cost of a visa is not included in the program cost) and will also visit the Mantenga Cultural Village where you will have the chance to experience traditional Swazi culture.
Day 21 - 26
Mozambique Beach & Whale Shark Tour
We venture on a 7-day tour to Tofo where you will experience the laid-back beach lifestyle of this colorful and vibrant country. You will take an ocean safari to snorkel with the magnificent Whale Shark and also have a full day kayak trip across the blue waters to the palm-fringed islands in the Inhambane Bay. If you are a certified diver you will have the opportunity of exploring the spectacular fish life of the coral reefs!
There is also the option to take part in an Internationally Accredited Open Water or Advanced Dive Course (extra cost) should you wish to dive. Here you’ll have the opportunity of exploring the spectacular fish life of the coral reefs and the chance to find the “Tofo Big 5” – Whale Sharks, Manta Rays, turtles, dolphins and Humpback Whales.
Day 27
Day 28 - 44
On returning to Eswatini you will head back to your volunteer placement for 12 days.
(Note: You will follow the same work programme as your initial two weeks. (see Day 8-20).
Day 45
Travel to Cape Town, South Africa: Today you will be taken to Manzini International Airport (KMIII) to Cape Town, where you’ll be picked up and taken to the Hout Bay Backpackers Lodge! and you will have an informative presentation that will brief you on all you need to know about the culture and country, and how to effectively contribute during your volunteer experience.

Red Bus Tour: Today is a free day to explore Cape Town and you will be given a ticket for the Red OpenTop Sightseeing Bus. This bus takes you to all of Cape Town’s sights including Table Mountain, V&A Waterfront, District Six Museum and Camps Bay Beach.
You can hop on and off at your leisure This will help you get a feel for the city and to identify the sights you wish to explore more on your return after the Garden Route Tour.
Day 48 - 53
Travel The Garden Route
Next you will travel through and stay along the “Garden Route” famous for its beautiful coastal villages and towns set against the backdrop of ancient forests and rugged mountains.
What to expect on your fantastic choice of doing the Garden Route Adventure & Wildlife nature tour, visiting the Southern Point of Africa where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet: Travel on the longest wine route in South Africa to the Karoo, via Mountains, beautiful scenic routes, over valleys, rugged Mountain passes, fruit orchards & enjoy beachfront accommodation and a chance to try surfing, stop at one of the highest bridges for an (optional) 218m bungy jump, go quad biking and sand boarding amongst stunning landscapes.
Enjoy wild Safari and elephant mudbaths, stand on ostrich eggs, taste South African foods & drinks. Make friends for life along the way!
Day 54 - 56
Explore Cape Town
You now have three more free days to explore the beautiful city of Cape Town. Ideas for day trips include visiting the penguins at Boulders Beach and going to Cape Point National Park, hiking up Table Mountain, going on a wine tour, visit Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens or do a tandem skydive!
Other ways to enjoy the vibe of Cape Town is to explore the bars and shops of Long Street, saunter the docksides of the V&A Waterfront, or take a boat out to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was held a political prisoner for 27 years.
Day 57
Sadly all great adventures must come to an end and on your final day you will leave the lodge in Hout Bay and will fly out of Cape Town International Airport or depart by other means.
Airport transfer is included on the designated departure day, otherwise early departures are responsible for their own transportation.
Day 57 - 78/85
You will spend the next days working with one of the child care centers in the Hout Bay area that are assisting disadvantaged children. During your three or four weeks (dependent on the duration you choose) you will be working at the care centers you will get involved with a number of different projects that aim to inspire and uplift the lives of these children. Volunteers will help with lesson planning and learning activities, painting educational murals and reading/writing. You’ll work in direct contact with these children on a daily basis taking care of their basic needs and giving them much-needed love and care.
There is also the option to work at a local center for the disabled, whose aim is to develop the skills of clients to be able to earn a small income and build self-confidence. Disability is still stigmatized in South Africa and the center is a safe space for those who attend. You may help with the skills training, including crafts or gardening projects and also with literacy lessons. A big part of your role is to be friendly and supportive and encouraging the clients.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I need experience to join this project?
How long is the work day?
This can vary but typically you will depart from your accommodation around 08:00am to arrive at your project and get started around 08:30. There is always a lunch break of at least one hour, and projects will resume in the afternoon with a finish time around 16:00. You'll have plenty of free time to relax and explore in the evenings and at weekends.
How many people will I be working alongside?
Each month we have a variety of volunteers join us from all over the world. In most cases you will be staying at a lodge with shared accommodation with perhaps 4-20+ other volunteers, however, these volunteers may be split amongst several different volunteer projects during the day. This is a great opportunity to meet and mix with volunteers who have different interests, but still get to have an intimate project experience!
What is the typical age of participants on the programme?
When/how should I book by flights?
Do I need any vaccinations?
Please check with your primary healthcare provider for the most current advice and let them know that you will be traveling to southern Africa. They may want to make sure all of your vaccinations are up to date and may have health recommendations for you. Essentially, it is up to you to seek current advice and decide whether you want to want to get vaccinated or take any malaria prophylaxis.
What about visas?
Visa requirements will depend on your nationality and it is your own responsibility to check whether or not you need a visa, so make sure you check on your local governments’ travel site for the most up to date information. However, many nationalities are able to obtain a 30-day tourist visa on entry at the border. If you are staying for longer periods our staff will help you with an extension in the country.
What about travel insurance?
It is your own responsibilty to obtain sufficient insurance cover for medical emergencies and other mishaps that could occur on your trip. It is strongly recommended that all volunteers have a valid travel insurance policy that will cover them for the duration of their stay.

By signing up with us you are donating your time and skills to work directly with communities in need through a structured project. There are many benefits of volunteering with an organisation like ours. Sometimes it is hard to find projects to support in a foreign country that are safe, worthwhile and reputable. When you sign-up for one of our projects for 2 or 12-weeks, you become part of a bigger, sustainable plan that our team of qualified staff has carefully crafted.
