


1 - 12 Weeks | Eswatini | Conservation Project
Stay on site at our well equipped Savannah Research Centres being supported by our experienced scientists. Volunteers, Interns, Researchers, School and University groups all welcome.
At our long-term research station in Eswatini, we offer field courses in ecology and data collection techniques. We have been working in Eswatini for over 12 years and have developed a strong program and a stable working environment with good in-country support. We regularly encounter a wide range of animals and have global network of scientific collaborators to which our on-going data sets are provided, and we work in partnership with both University of Eswatini and University of Florida. We welcome school, university or special interest groups to the Savannah Research Centre for short term study visits. We can show you are work and involve you in our conservation efforts. Researchers can come to set up their own studies and our staff can offer expert assistance. volunteers and interns can spend time assisting our staff at the centre from 2 to 12 weeks.
ACCOMMODATION
During your stay you will be accommodate at the Savannah Research Centre located in the Mbuluzi Game Reserve, living in a private camp in the reserve. You will have a furnished tent with solar light. The camp is supplied with running water, communal showers and toilets and central kitchen, dining and socialising unit. Bedding is provided and laundry facilities are available.
The Savannah Research Centre is set on the banks of the Mbuluzi River in Mbuluzi Game Reserve. It is a field research facility catering for researchers and students who seek to conduct ecological and other field research in the Lubombo Conservancy of NE Eswatini. The facility caters for up to 30 people and includes a field laboratory, computer laboratory, tented accommodation, a kitchen, dining facility, ablution facilities with flush toilets and hot showers and wash basins, outdoor bonfire and a viewing and discussion deck. Mbuluzi Game Reserve is home to plentiful wildlife in Eswatini. Game-viewing roads, hiking trails and a mountain-bike route wind around the reserve, criss-crossing the Mlawula River and offering impressive views. The terrain undulates between the deep Mbuluzi gorge and steep Lubombo escarpment, with dense riverine forests, rocky cliffs and open savannah. It supports a good population of giraffe, plus kudu, blue wildebeest, zebra, impala and other herbivores. Hippos move in and out of the reserve, while spotted hyenas and leopards are occasionally seen. Over 300 bird species have been recorded, including rarities such as African finfoot, and the rivers hold numerous crocodiles.
MEALS
Volunteers, interns and students receive 3 meals a day when joining an All Out Africa experience. These meals are provided and are eaten together on the communal decking area in the summer or in the dining room during winter. Breakfast is self-service from a selection of items including cereals, bread, fruit, yogurt, eggs and spreads. Lunch too is self-service from items such as bread, ham, cheese, salad and fruits. Dinner is a cooked meal which you will assist with cooking on a rotational basis. Types of dishes served include pasta, stir-fry, curry and stew.
Vegetarians and most food allergies can be catered for.In order to fully support you during your experience, please advise us at time of booking if you have any food allergies or preferences, so we can cater for these in our meal plans. We will do our best but be prepared your food selection may not be as varied as other participants. If your food allergies/preference are quite restrictive, we may require you to pay an additional fee to allow us to cater for you.
