These are the best mountains to climb in Eswatini and should be on any avid mountaineers wish list for southern Africa. These peaks are also suitable for novice hikers. Although the Himalaya’s may be earth’s mountain Mecca, Eswatini (Swaziland) has these awesome peaks and great summits to hike. All of them are accessible, with spectacular views and enjoyable climbs. Most of these mountains have clear trails leading to their summits and secure parking at the start of the climb. Hikes to each of these peaks can be arranged by All Out Africa.

Best Mountains to Climb in the Hhohho Region

Emlembe summit (1,862m)

Highest mountain in the Kingdom of Eswatini (Swaziland) just north of Bulembu town and border post in the Hhohho region. Clearly one of the best mountains to climb in Eswatini it is accessible from Bulembu Country Lodge with guides available. Return hike takes about 4hrs. Guide recommended for first time visitors.

Silotfwane peak (1,642m)

Third highest mountain in the Kingdom of Eswatini (Swaziland) located in the heart of Malolotja National Park in the Hhohho region. Accessible from Malolotja National Park reception. Return hike takes about 10hrs with a loop option. The trail is not very clear, guide recommended for first time visitors.

Sibebe summit (1,419m)

One of the world’s largest granite monoliths and found just north of the capital city of Mbabane in the Hhohho region. Accessible from Pine Valley on the edge of Mbabane city offering a steep hike up the sloping rock face. Return hike takes about 3hrs. Guide recommended for first time visitors. Also accessible from Sibebe Resort offering an easy plateau walk. Return hike takes about 1.5hrs with a loop option.

Sheba’s Breast peak (1,171m)

The iconic peak of King Solomon’s Mines fame just south of the Ezuwlini valley. Accessible from Lidwala Lodge at Roki Centre on the Ezulwini main road. Return hike takes about 3hrs with a recommended loop option. Well maintained trail. Also accessible from Mantenga Nature Reserve. Return hike takes about 3hrs with a recommended loop option.

Best Mountains to Climb in the Manzini Region

Makungutsha summit (1,152m)

On the edge of the Usutu valley escarpment just south of Wide Horizons Retreat and north of the Ngwempisi gorge. Accessible from Wide Horizons Retreat. Return hike takes about 4hrs with a recommended loop option. Well maintained trail. Another prime candidate in this area is the Ntfungula mountain on the south side of the Ngwempisi gorge, although a longer and less accessible drive to access.

Execution Rock peak (1,110m)

The iconic peak in the heart of Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary where centuries ago villains were allegedly hurled to their death. Accessible from Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary main camp. Return hike takes about 5hrs with a recommended loop option. Well maintained trail.

Best Mountains to Climb in the Shiselweni Region

Mahamba summit (1,274m)

An impressive peak just north of Mahamba Gorge Lodge and the Mahamba border post. Accessible from Mahamba Gorge Lodge. Return hike takes about 4hrs with a recommended loop option. The trail is not clear. Guide recommended for first time visitors.
