Hi there, my name is Sophie and I’m from Australia.

What project did you sign up for?

I signed up for the Kruger to Coast expedition. While in Eswatini I helped out in the sports development program, which involved going to a different NCP each day and playing with the kids, whether that be a warm-up of dancing and singing, small sports courses or free-time with a range of sports equipment that All Out provided. We would also support children between the ages of 9-17 at homework club, where we were able to tutor a kid individually to improve their reading, spelling and maths skills.

What do you do for a living?

This year I have been taking a Gap Year, which involved working for 6 months, travelling around Europe for 4 months, and finishing up with the All Out Africa expedition. Next year I will be studying Engineering and Design at university.

What does volunteering mean to you?

After participating in a range of volunteer trips, I understand volunteering to be offering your help and time to connect with others and work towards a common goal of making someone or a community’s lives better.

Reason for choosing All Out Africa?

We found All Out Africa directly online, and were excited about the opportunity after reading about the various activities and experiences you can involve yourself in on the Kruger to Coast expedition. I was really happy I booked this trip as the location was incredible and most of the activities were well organised.

Your experience as a volunteer, did it had any positive impact on your life?

Volunteering has had a very positive impact on my life as I was able to see first hand the effect of giving back to the community, and I know it will continue to affect me in everyday life as I appreciate the world around me and help others.

Where are you from?

Hi, my name is Ward, I am 16 years old and I’m from the Netherlands.

What project did you sign up for?

I signed up for Kruger to Coast (4 weeks) trip. Whereas in Eswatini I signed up for the sports development program.  At the beginning of the day we participated with the warm-up which most of the time ended up with people dancing. After the warm-up we (the volunteers) helped setting up small sport courses for the kids to participate in. And most of the times we participated as well.  After every sports session we had plenty of free time, to just play with the kids. At around 2 a clock we went to homework club, where we helped kids around the age of 9-17 with their homework and sometimes strategic insight by playing games.

What do you do for a living?

I just finished my high school, and now I will be studying, while having a side job at a supermarket.

What does volunteering mean to you?

Volunteering to me means helping people who need help without getting payed. It’s about being there for people without asking something in return.

Reason for choosing All Out Africa?

I chose All Out Africa because, the trip (Kruger to Coast) had everything I wanted. They gave me the opportunity to do a safari, volunteering work and a week Mozambique. It was the best perfect trip ever and everything was well organised.

Your experience as a volunteer, did it had any positive impact on your life?

It really had a positive impact on my life. I learned to appreciate the luxury we have in the Netherlands, but I also learned to appreciate the way of living in the Southern of Africa. It really gave me an insight of how people live in really poor countries. Overall I am really glad I chose to go on this adventure and I will certainly do it again (if I have the money for it ????).

Brian: Building consultant

Camilla: High school teacher (biology and sports-science)

What does volunteering mean to you?

Making a difference for people in need, and in this case, as a bonus, experiencing and learning about another country and culture.

Reason for choosing All Out Africa?

Inspired by the information we were given by our travel agency, Travel Alott. As a family with 2 kids, we thought it was meaningful to work with and help, other kids.

Your experience as a volunteer, did it had any positive impact on your life?

Travelling and experiencing other countries and cultures, will almost always have long term positive impact. It is in our opinion essential, in order to learn and understand the world we live in. Through volunteering for All Out Africa, we were given the privilege of meeting many local people, hearing their story and learning about their life. Yes, we as Europeans, have many privileges, but do we live a happier life? Not necessarily!

Where are you from?

I’m from Denmark.

What project did you sign up for?

I did sports development with kids in the age of 2-6 years old. We played games and did some sports with the kids at the Neighbourhood Care Points and they loved it.

What do you do for a living?

I’m currently on a gap year, so I worked in a Day Care in Denmark before I volunteered in Eswatini. I loved working with kids at home, so being able to volunteer in the NCP’s in Eswatini was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed it.

What does volunteering mean to you?

Volunteering was an amazing experience. I loved meeting so many sweet kids and the fact that I was able to bring some smiles and happiness into their lives was amazing.

Reason for choosing All Out Africa?

I booked the program through a Danish agency and therefore I didn’t know about All Out Africa. But now that I do, I would definitely consider volunteering with All Out Africa again in the future.  It was an amazing experience.

Your experience as a volunteer, did it had any positive impact on your life?

Volunteering has given me the chance to meet new people, experience other cultures and to see the word from a new perspective. I enjoyed every moment of my stay.
