I began by measuring BMIs at the NCPs in Ekuzukekeni and Ezulwini, where I discovered a significant difference between the two. After measuring the BMIs, I also focused on a school in a rural area, Lamgambhi. Despite their different environments, Ezulwini and Lamgambhi had one thing in common: around 40% of the children in both schools were underweight. I wanted to find out why, as the conditions at these two NCPs are very different.

I gathered information from teachers, staff, and other people I met during my internship in the neighbourhood. After identifying the reasons for the underweight issues, I created a suggestion report. In this report, I provided advice and suggestions that All Out Africa can implement in the future.

I learned a lot from my internship. I developed skills in creating effective schedules, setting priorities, and establishing boundaries. I was given the freedom to determine what I needed to achieve my goals while receiving the necessary guidance and support.

I experienced the culture in various ways, observing the differences between city life, peri-urban areas, and rural areas, and how these environments affect the residents. I learned that each environment has unique challenges, and there isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. However, one thing remains important across all areas: raising awareness about issues like healthy living, especially understanding what is and isn’t healthy and the consequences of an unhealthy lifestyle. There’s no better place to start than at an early age, at the NCP.

1. Ancient Sea Dwellers

Jellyfish are ancient sea creatures that have been roaming our oceans for millions of years. They are one of the oldest living organisms on Earth, making them a testament to the resilience of marine life [2].

2. Abundance in Oceans

Unlike many other marine species, jellyfish are not at risk of extinction. In fact, there is a surplus of jellyfish in our oceans, and they can be found in every ocean around the world [5].

3. Diverse Species

Jellyfish come in various shapes and sizes, with more than 2,000 different species identified. From the graceful moon jellyfish to the imposing lion’s mane jellyfish, each species has its unique features and behaviors [2].

4. Unusual Locomotion

Jellyfish are known for their distinctive mode of movement. They use a pulsating motion to propel themselves through the water, making them appear as if they’re gracefully dancing beneath the waves [3].

5. Ancient Medicine

Believe it or not, jellyfish venom has shown promise in the field of medicine. Some researchers are exploring the potential of jellyfish toxins to develop new drugs for various medical conditions, including heart disease and cancer [2].

6. Essential Marine Role

Jellyfish play a vital role in marine ecosystems. They serve as a food source for various marine animals, including sea turtles. Additionally, they help control the populations of smaller organisms, contributing to the balance of oceanic ecosystems [1].

7. Box Jellyfish – A Unique Species

Box jellyfish are known for their distinctive cube-like shape, measuring up to 20cm on each side. These intriguing creatures can be found in the waters of the Indo-Pacific region [6].

Jellyfish are not just captivating beings in the ocean but also essential to the marine ecosystem. Their enigmatic beauty and unique characteristics make them a subject of fascination for scientists and marine enthusiasts alike. The more we learn about these ancient sea dwellers, the more we appreciate the wonders of our oceans.

So next time you’re near the ocean, keep an eye out for these mesmerizing creatures and remember the important role they play in the delicate balance of marine life.

Inspired by the Youth Entrepreneurship of Eswatini

During my time here, I have had one-on-one coaching sessions with youth producers, met with young mothers from the LaMgabhi community who have been building businesses to support their new families and have given a product management lecture at the Institute of Development Management for Junior Achievement Eswatini and UNFPA.

Building businesses takes hard work, dedication, and resilience, and in my short time here, it has been incredible to see the progress that the young entrepreneurs have been making. They are the future of Eswatini.

At the front of Likusasa Letfu, we have an outlet selling handmade, homemade, and home-grown youth produce. Our items range from jams to biltong, cushions and homeware, art, jewelry, and cleaning products. Each item represents the creativity and potential of our youth and serves as a seed for creating more sustainable futures.

Khangisa Shop: A Display Space for Local Producers’ Products

On the last Saturday of each month, we host a market at Mahhala for youth producers to showcase their wares free of charge. Participants are responsible for bringing their own tables and display materials.
